Advanced Glider Training

The Advanced Glider Training (AGT) is a short 3 to 5 hour advanced training course on the Vigilant T Mk1 with additional solo flying.

The Advanced Glider Training Course involves revision of the GS Course Syllabus and instruction on Advanced Turning and Advanced Landing. Trainees will be required to fly a minimum of five solo circuits during their course.

Eligibility

This course is available to all Air Cadets from the CCF(RAF) and ATC who;

  • have completed a Gliding Scholarship Course with silver wings
  • have no temporary or permanent medical condition that would make flying unsafe for the cadet or pilot
  • possess a valid RAF Medical Form 6424
  • are able to commit to attending regularly until the course completes

In exceptional cases, this course is open to Civil and Military personnel authorised by HQAC.

Selection Requirements

Selection is made by the OC VGS, subject to the Unit's Tasking, on application by the Candidate.

Attendance

From the start to finish, Trainees are required to attend the allocated day at the weekend until the completion of their course. This takes priority over all other activities with their Cadet Unit. The OC VGS reserves the right to suspend training if Trainees fail to make satisfactory progress due to non-attendance.

Course Award

Trainees are awarded the Air Cadets (Gold) Wings by the OC VGS. The award is made on recommendation from an B-Category Instructor, after satisfactorily completing a Check Flight to the Aircrew Training Standard (AGT) and passing the required Ground School examinations.

Further Training

On satisfactory completion of the AGT Course, Air Cadets will usually be invited onto the Flight Staff Cadet Scheme. All Trainees are subsequently recommended to commence their Basic Pilot Training.
